"All Shook Down trades in the old grievances of extended adolescence and re-seeds the ground with new resentments about adulthood. That terrain is trickier and slipperier. It is not so clear who your enemies are. It is not so clear that your enemies are not yourself."

Maybe it's just because I discovered pop-Replacements before the punk, but I never saw the problems with this album, it's a natural progression and a natural end point.
Ah, another of the in-time soundtracks to my mental disintegration. For me, it was about a month of wishing the album was louder in late September( 1990), but ultimately left with no choice than to melt and wallow in its woeful trap of melancholy by late October, when my marriage flew away like a dirt tornado. These songs are all good. They told my story in a maudlin way-- I'm pretty certain to have been at least as sad and emotionally sick as their singer. More luckily, Jan. 1991 was the one time live event, with these songs much more punchy in their live versions.
Bought the cassette right out of college. I was disappointed but still listened quite often on my commute. Over the years, when I listen to it I really LISTEN. On repeat for a couple days. I think recently reading Trouble Boys has made me appreciate it even more.

Always found it interesting that it’s Tommy’s favorite.
From the sad food files, I’ve always liked Man Without Ties’ “Friday night frozen pizza thing.”
